The diagram explains the working of a solar panel and other components attached to it, used at home for the generation of electricity. The entire system is comprised of five elements namely: solar panels, inverter, electrical panel, utility meter and utility grid.
Firstly, the solar panels placed over the rooftop absorb energy from the sunlight and convert that into DC current. The DC current is then fed to an inverter whose job is to turn that DC supply to AC, following that there is an electrical panel which distributes that AC current to the electrical appliances within the household.
In case of any excess power generation, the utility meter connected to the system would take care of it by supplying that back to the grid. Lastly, the grid connected to the system has a specific job, that is, to provide the power back in case of the consumption of electricity within the household exceed that of the power generated by the solar panel itself.
