IELTS ESSAY TOPIC-15

Many governments think that economic progress is their most important goal. Some people, however, think that other types of progress are equally important for a country. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

It is believed that a country's economic condition tells a lot about its growth and development and  the governments of many countries are behind that thought process only. However, some people argue that other factors are equally important and should not be overlooked. I agree with the latter statement.

The way bureaucrats think the country's economy should be prioritised as it will eventually lead to development of other sectors as well, is not all wrong. If a country's economical condition improves that implies the tax collection is increasing which in turn means that the businesses and employment rates are growing. To be precise, individuals are making progress which will lead them to provide better healthcare and education facilities for their families. So to achieve that government focuses on the development of revenue generating sectors.

On the other hand, many people want the government to work the other way around. They intent that government should spend capital to develop sectors like healthcare as it is an expensive field all together. For instance, the countries like Canada and Denmark provide free medical services to their residents. Not only that education fee is exempted in most parts of Denmark. They might not be standing out in their economical status but the people residing their have no complaints. Also, health and education are equally, if not more, important as compared to country's economy.

The provocation is not to provide free services but to provide abundance of services. Example of lack of services could be the way second COVID-19 wave struck the country India, millions of people died because the hospitals failed to accommodate the patients, that is the reason people are appealing to rise the medical services immediately.

To conclude, I would state that progress of healthcare and education needs to be prioritised over economic growth of any country.
