IELTS ESSAY TOPIC-12

News editors decide what to broadcast on television and what to print in newspapers. What factors do you think influence these decisions? Do we become used to bad news? Would it be better if more good news was reported?

As the number of television channels and newspapers are increasing and so is their competition in respect of popularity increasing. With that, most of the editors are publishing what concerns people. There are so many factors that influence editors' decisions such as political scenarios, social behavior, cultural background. However, I believe especially after the pandemic it has become essential to focus on spreading the good news in order to boost morale and give hope back to all citizens.

During 2020, I had many moments of profound sadness and fear. Although I understand that it is very important to be updated with the latest happenings, health, and safety orientations. But reading the newspaper and watching the local news only aggravated my state. Writers and journalists should know that it is important to share the news with responsibility and should be aware that they have an impact on the audience. Bad news leads to depression and anxiety in many people.

Also, I believe that knowing good news is important for everyone. People, in general, are keen more than ever for good news, so they can be hopeful again. They definitely need to see in the local news action taken by the government to improve the environment, community actions to help homeless people, they need to see people happy. Editors should restore faith in the human being and focus more on the solutions than that of the problems.

To conclude, I know that sharing information is essential. But, spreading good news should be given equal importance in order to restore faith in humanity and bring back joy in society.
