IELTS ESSAY TOPIC-01

Modern communications mean that it’s no longer necessary to write letters. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your experience.

It is evident with the latest technology, communication has become so simple and quick that we need not to write letters which earlier used to take several days to reach the recipient. With the communication facilities that we have today, people have almost forgot the concept of writing letters. Whereas, I believe that the methods we have today for communication are easier but writing letters will always remain important.

Not more than two decades have passed when we used to write letters to our dear ones residing in the different parts of the country or in another country altogether and used to imagine how he/she would have been. Today with the advancement we can not only talk to them, but we can also have a video call to our loved ones. There is no requirement of writing letters for communication. It was like an imagination for the people in those times that such a time will come when we will be able to see people talking live.

It has been observed nowadays, people only write letters when they have to record the information in a written form for future reference. Whenever people need to communicate to some  authorized person, they write letters for that. It has been observed that majority of letters we write today are formal ones which people can have as a notarised communication proof.

To summarise, Yes we definitely have better tools today to talk to people but letter is  one of  them. And no matter how advance the communication tools we will have in future, there will always be a place for people writing letters.
