Advertising is defined as the paid, non-personal form of promotion about products or services by a well-known sponsor through the mass media in order  to inform, convince or influence the thinking of the target audience i.e. customers.

Benefits of Advertisements:

1.Increased Sales ; resulting in massive profits as a well -advertised product is easy to be sold in the market.

2. Stimulated Production (as the demand increases).

3. Serves as a medium between clients and companies.

4. Information about available options and helps in comparing prices.

 5. Generates employment opportunities.

 6. Improved standard of living(Advertising prepares people to accept and use new and standard products)

7. Benefits to national and international market as it is instrumental in generating national and international trade. People of the globe can access useful products easily (due to the impact of globalisation).

 Disadvantages of Advertising:

 1. Adds to the total cost of production and product 

2. Deceptive advertising-It has misleading/deceptive implications. Most claims are exaggerated. Advertising has a little truth and a lot false. It is difficult to justify the company’s claims made in advertisement. Some claims or appeals do not have any logic. Advertising appeals related to beauty, herbal and pharmaceutical products are far from reality. Some advertisements are so vulgarly presented that have only erotic appeal than commercial.

 4. It provokes people to buy unnecessary products as people are emotionally forced to buy the products.

5. It also promotes Impulsive Buying .
