The map and chart below show the information for the global willingness to eat insect products and the current price for certain food available on the market place.
The map suggests what percentage of people around the world are open to the idea for consumption of the insect goods and the bar graph indicates about the cost of these food items.
As the numbers suggest the countries like Australia, Peru, Mexico and Thailand are pretty much on board with the idea. However, the countries like USA, India, Japan, UK, Spain, Russia and South Africa are not that much fascinated by the same. Besides, wild weaver ant is the most expensive among all other items.
On the more precise note, Japan seems highly opposed to the thought as the it has provided lowest consent of all the countries participated in the survey, that is, 21%. Mexico, however, seems to be much more intrigued by the idea as it number speaks for itself with 71% on board. For Brazil and China almost half the people are on board. The rest (Spain, UK , USA,India, Russia , Australia) have shown their 30% willingness , which is still a decent number.
Further, it can be seen from the graph that Rice and Glutinous Rice were least expensive, with cost below 1 USD/kg only. However, Weaver Ant and Bamboo Caterpillar were costlier than all other things in the list namely Buffalo, Pork, Beef, Palm Weevil, House Cricket etcetera , and had their cost around 10.5 USD/kg. Apart from that, the price of Mole Cricket was nearly half of it (5 USD/kg).
