PTE Essay 11

Religion is a private affair. Governments should not interfere with any citizen’s religious beliefs. What is your opinion about this?

The individual belief and faith in a particular sect is a choice which people hold close to the heart and must not be tampered with to propagate any personal agenda. The present scenario of governments luring people to their side by giving incentives based on religion is a damning step. I strongly disagree with the ideology as it creates a rift between like-minded communities.

Starting with, any government has a scope of work to include only the development schemes and policies enhancing the life quality of the people. This includes the provision of essential services like physical and social infrastructure irrespective of any religious bias. Secondly, following a particular religion is a personal choice where a person adopts a set of beliefs without comparing it to any other religion or group. An attempt of weighing one over the other should not be practised.

Lastly, secularism is accounted for in most of the constitutions where religions are levelled and treated in the same dynamism and failure to do so is unlawful. Adversely, the interference of the government in the religion of the people has resulted in creating a rift amongst people on petty issues diverting the focus from the major issues of the nations. Also, the sacred ideology of all religions is out in the public for criticism and discussion making it challenging to maintain the stature and converting the personal beliefs and ideologies into satire.

Concluding it all, the religion-a fragile component of the personality, should not be tampered or touched by any external forces other than the individual’s choice. This may create strife in the society and governments should instead emphasise on other important agendas detailing welfare of their people.
