Some spend many hours in work and complete very little while others spend a few hours and achieve a lot of work. Who, do you think, are a better lot – people who are hard workers or those who are smart workers?
The days when people used to ascribe to others as hard workers are almost gone. Now the phrase used for successful people is ‘smart worker’. There used to be times when a lot of physical strength was required to accomplish any particular task, at home or outside, hence everyone was expected to acquire or maintain stamina for achieving accomplishment. In the contemporary times, a large number of tasks get done with the click of a few buttons or phone calls or using other managerial skills. One does not have to travel or commute to other locations so often when the latest technology is available to issue commands or take control of the situations. Of course, such an expertise will have to be learnt and practiced to reduce physical involvement. For example, video calling can help a manager or a leader engage with people at distant locations without undergoing the botherations of travel, hence saving huge sums of money as well. This also saves time and energy. Architects, for example, are considered to be smart workers since they engage in using technology to their advantage. High profile surgeons have recently learnt using robots for distant surgeries. Online teaching is yet another sphere where people have proved themselves.
Professional educational institutions should take lead in imparting training in using latest technologies while schools should focus on thinking skills. Once students reach the next stage, they would be ready to act as smart workers. Those who spend more time and achieve less suffer from this handicap only.
